Poppy wants to live in a world where everyone's story matters, regardless of their income or way of life.

As a photographer, she's won ribbons at the county fair. As a spiritual seeker and writer, she's been featured in Jen Louden's The Life Organizer and once published an article at allthingsgirl.net.

When she's not writing or photographing her story, she can be found at her day job as a technology consultant, or at home snuggling her cats, or in the park, taking a walk with her husband.

Things I did while I was home sick yesterday

Things I did while I was home sick yesterday

  • Read a book

  • Took painkillers every 4-6 hours (sore throat - which thankfully did not turn into strep)

  • Prepared a full kettle of soup from mix found in the pantry

  • Binge-watched several episodes of “The Good Place”

  • Drank several cups of tea

  • Doodled

  • Read another book

  • Made a list of Skillshare classes to take eventually

  • Scrolled Facebook

  • Scrolled Instagram

  • Fixed another full kettle of soup - two, actually, the recipe made so much, I had to split it between my soup pots

Please note, two things NOT on the list are doing the household budget and paying bills - both of which need to get done. Too afraid to look at our budget right now - we had set a goal to pay our credit card halfway down by December, and we’re less than half of the way where we wanted to be. Our housing counselor tells us if we want to buy a house, we should plan to “live our mortgage payment” - i.e., budget now as if we’re paying 20% more housing payment than we’re making right now. Can’t do it while we’re also paying the credit card down, and I’m learning - slowly - to be OK with that.

How to play along

Because safety is a core value for me, I am asking that comments in this space avoid all the ugly things: shame, blame, judgement. I am asking that disagreement and discussion be polite, respectful, generous, and open to vulnerability.

Because community is healthy behavior, I welcome you to comment, to share your thoughts and responses and discuss this with empathy with me and with each other.
